Hello Reader,

Last month, I included a photo of the bear that wandered through our yard and told you about some of the other wildlife I've seen this summer. A few weeks later, my neighbour and walking partner, Sheri, informed me that a *cougar* had walked through her yard, just down the street from me. Then we had a young grizzly right next door a few days ago. Needless to say, I haven't been walking much lately!

Other than that, summer was quiet and I'm happy to be entering the cooler days of September.

Although, I'm now entering some busy weeks with book signings in September and October (keep scrolling for dates and locations) then I'll visit my sister in November, the one in Winnipeg, not the one in Australia. [Insert joke about Winnipeg being the Adelaide of Canada--kind of in the middle and near the bottom, chronically under-appreciated considering all it has to offer. Except, you know, civilized temperatures.]

Before we know it, it will be holiday season. Can you believe how quickly 2026 is evaporating?

What Was I Thinking?

What I'm Watching

We started a movie called Oh, Hi! which went a little bit off the rails. I was tired and we never picked it up again. If you've watched the end, reply and spoil it for me. I was getting stressed so I haven't gone back to it.

I've been rewatching 30 Rock, watching the latest season of Ted Lasso, and I've started watching Trying, which is very cute.

Did I mention the Spanish show Muertos S.L. (Death, Inc.) yet? I really enjoyed this one. It was very farcical, great characters, and I was very sad to see it end, but I thought it ended perfectly. I highly recommend this one.

The King of Color documentary about the man who invented the Pantone Color Matching system was very interesting.

The Dink on Apple was amusing, but also pretty dumb. Well worth it for Aaron Chen's character, though.

We also started something called Bait on Prime which shows promise.

Doug and I love standup and Jeff Arcuri's Nice to Meet You was great. Ryan Hamilton's This Just Hit Me was also very funny.

What's Next

Most of August was spent working on the secret project. I'm having a lot of fun with it, but the first draft is always a bit of a slog for me. Good news, I'm having a meeting with some peeps on Sept 8th. Hopefully after that, I'll be able to share a little more on what this one's about. I'll keep you posted!

I turned in revisions for what will be my 71sth Harlequin. It's the one in Argentina. I'm still obsessed with visiting as a result of all my research. The country sounds so beautiful and vibrant.

Now I have one more Harlequin on this contract, due in December. I'm thinking to set it in Vancouver and I'm thinking of a housekeeper heroine.

Since I have a little pocket of time, I'm trying to get a jump on a multi-author project that I'll be announcing in December. For now, I'm only telling you that much. I'm very mean, I know.

And I've seen the cover concept for the book coming out next spring with Sugar Shack. 😍🤩 I can't wait to share it with you!

So, as usual, lots of pots on the boil over here.

I am so happy we had rain today. I'm very happy my toothache has settled down (that's a whole other story) and I'm thrilled that my tomato plants are starting to produce. Yum! 😋

Excerpt - Afternoon Delight

In this excerpt, Meg has been helping Zak through a tough spell with his father. They're leaving a pub and hug. Then this happens...

“I think about you a lot. How it would feel to kiss you. Do other things.” His brow lifted. “I thought maybe you should know that.”

“That is very unexpected news, considering ninety percent of our conversations revolve around sex.” I was trying hard not to let his words mean more than they did.

“Tell me you think about it too, so I know I’m not a degenerate.”

“That ship has sailed, sir.”

“Fair.” Another sideways grin, this one fuller. More lighthearted.

We were still holding on to each other, pressed close, sharing amused smirks.

“I do think about you in certain ways,” I admitted ruefully. “Ways that are not helpful when you’re going through so much.”

“Don’t. That’s not what this is.”

I wrinkled my nose, pretty sure he was simply clinging to the nearest solid object—me—but I was okay with that, since his arms felt really good around me.

“I’m a grown adult and I’m sober. Mostly.” He’d had a second beer. “I happen to be having a bad day. If you think letting me kiss you would be taking advantage of me, then lucky me. Have at it.”

“Maybe today isn’t the best day for me to do that, is all I’m saying.”

“Hmph. But is it definitely possible that at some point you’re going to use me like a ten-speed, hands-free, water-resistant vibrator?”

“Until I’m too weak to leave my bed.” I adored him. “Do you think maybe we should get out of the rain?”

“Do you think maybe we should kiss? Just once? Just to see?”

“Once,” I allowed. “For science.” I immediately got all nervous and fluttery. My smile wouldn’t relax.

He was grinning too. He dipped his head to brush his mouth at the corner of mine. The bristles of his beard grazed my chin. I liked it.

We both laughed, self-conscious, then pressed our lips together with more purpose.

The flood of sensations was incredible. We were both shivering and shuffled closer, warding off the cold. Speckles of rain dampened my face and the heat of our skin practically made the drops sizzle.

A rush of excitement struck as I realized I was finally kissing this man. I’d been waiting and waiting, and it was every bit as lovely as I’d hoped.

We found the right angle, the perfect fit, and settled into it. For those few moments, nothing else existed. My whole body felt like it glowed.

When the hiss of tires on wet pavement neared, we broke the kiss and caught our breath, suddenly aware of where we were.

I pulled all the way out of his arms and zipped my jacket up to my chin, freezing to death now that I wasn’t snuggled up to him.

“That felt really good,” he said.

“It did,” I agreed. Way too good. Like, change-your-life-for-a-man good.

Been there, done that, and sent that worn-out old T-shirt to the rag bag. Never again, Meg. Never again.

“Where does your sister live?” I blipped my fob to light up my SUV.
