My author commentary on Stolen For His Son is already available! Keep reading for the links, but first, did you get your free copy of After Hours Rendezvous, the prequel to Afternoon Delight? If not, grab your copy here: After Hours RendezvousGeorgia has rules: no bosses, no drama, no falling for the man upstairs. Georgia opened Afternoon Delight, an adult toy boutique, to be her own boss, answer to no one, and never let a man derail her again. What she didn't plan on was Bruno — the broad-shouldered security guard who turns out to live in the flat directly above her shop, the one who has been distracting her from the moment they met. Bruno is stretched thin. He works nights, runs a gym on fumes, and has been quietly keeping his family afloat since his brother's life imploded. He has no business wanting more than the occasional after-hours visit with Georgia, but her razor wit and her warm, unapologetic heart, is the one thing in his life that feels like breathing room. Then a frightening medical diagnosis forces Georgia to let people in — including Bruno, who shows up with Tylenol and questions he has no right to ask, and stays far longer than either of them intended. Through slow-burn texts, waffles that taste better than any fancy dinner, and the kind of honesty that only happens in the dark, two fiercely independent people start to wonder if needing someone could feel less like surrender and more like coming home. After Hours Rendezvous is a steamy, heartfelt contemporary romance set in Victoria, BC, featuring a sex-positive heroine, a quietly devoted hero, found family, and a happily ever after worth every ache along the way.
I've been seeing some lovely reviews for After Hours Rendezvous over on Goodreads. If you've read it and want to leave a comment of your own, you can review After Hours Rendezvous here. (Thanks Jennifer for kicking those off! xo) Hello Reader,If you're in the middle of winter where you live, I'm lowkey jealous. The beginning of our summer was fantastic, but now it's stinkin' hot with fires closing highways and ever-present smoke. I'm ready for autumn rains. Between a busy spring and a busy fall, however, I've had a lot of time to get words written which is always my happy place, especially when I glance away from my screen and see one of these fellas wandering through our yard: It's been a fun year for wildlife, actually. I was telling my daughter about the line of turtles on a log, the geese and beaver and field mice I'd seen in the nature park. She said, "You're like a Disney princess." 100%. But they have yet to produce a ball gown for me. I wasn't about to confront that hairy godmother in the photo above, though, to ask whether they're taking strike action or what. What I'm WatchingDang, I've completely forgotten to keep a list! I have to rely on my memory!?! Let's see: We've started Lucky on AppleTV. It's what we in the biz call a classic Wo-Jep: Woman in Jeopardy. It's a tiny bit more anxiety provoking than I'm up for right now, but it's very good. We watched the Pee Wee Herman documentary, which was very good. I watched a quiet little Canadian movie called Sorry, Baby which I very much enjoyed. Oh! I found a sitcom called Not Suitable for Work on Disney which is cute. We also watched the Tom Hiddleson, Pompeii Out Of Time on Disney (I think?) It was a bit contrived, but interesting. We binged that Will Ferrel show, Hawk, on Netflix. It was predictably very silly, as was The Dink on Apple. The Dink is worth it for Aaron Chen (webmaster from Fisk.) I'm also watching a Mexican drama called My Daughter's Father about a girl who needs a kidney transplant. All the testing reveals the daughter is the product of the mother's affair. It's good. A lot happens! What's NextI've been head-down writing my next Presents, where the heroine gets pregnant by her ex. You can be forgiven for thinking that's every Presents that I write. In other writing news, I have so many pots on the boil, it's stressing me out a little. Getting that Harlequin finished above--early, as always--really helps. I have one more Harlequin due by the end of the year which gives me breathing room for everything else on my plate. I have that secret project I'm not able to talk about yet. I'm hoping to get one of those books finished by the end of October, then I have a collaboration project with some fellow authors that will release in KU next year. I'll wait for the official announcement to tell you more, but it's a fun concept and I think you'll like it. If all I had to do was write, I'd be golden, but I have revisions and copy edits and promotional stuff coming along all the time. I'm working behind-the-scenes on the Afternoon Delight re-launch and have ordered print copies of After Hours Rendezvous for those two book signings. I'm very excited for those events, but I'm a champion worrier and they're providing ample fuel. But you know what? Those are all nice problems to have, especially since I'm not under an evacuation notice or, worse, actually displaced by fires right now. I'm counting my lucky stars and writing up my Happy Endings... Happy EndingsI'm so happy that my veggie garden is flourishing, that there was a fresh batch of quail chicks the other day, and that I was able to catch up with some high school friends last month, when they came through playing in their Tragically Hip cover band, Gift Shop. That was such a fun night out! Thanks Ian, Craig, and everyone else. Hugs, Dani P.S. Read on for an excerpt from the book releasing on Harlequin today: Excerpt - Stolen For His SonJade is at a party and locks herself into an office to avoid her dreaded half-sister, then discovers she's not alone. After a drink and some banter, she and Luca get a little more personal. ~ “Dance with me here, then.” He turned back to her and brought her hand to his shoulder, then found her waist with his other hand. “W-why?” Her breath stuttered in her lungs. The music was only a thudding heartbeat pulsing through the walls. The atmosphere in this room was both institutional and intimate with the lines of books and that single light burning on the desk. “I like to dance. Don’t you?” “Yes.” But she mostly she danced alone, in the privacy of her flat. The sensible voice of self-preservation inside her said, Don’t do this, but the feel of his hand on her waist was enough to weaken her resolve. Another voice said, Who’s going to know? And, Why can’t I? It’s only a dance. Why couldn’t she, just once, give in to impulse? To pleasure? She pressed herself closer, letting her arms twine around his neck, inviting him to close his arms possessively around her. Then she basked in the sensations of heat and strength. They swayed and the brush of their bodies felt both safe and dangerous. Terrifying enough to make her tremble, but exciting enough to make her want to caress his neck and rub against him and stoke the wonderful sparks that were crackling and glinting inside her. She wanted to revel in the power of this strange storm he was inciting through nothing more than being here. They were barely moving, barely touching. They hadn’t even kissed, but she was aware of the column of his erection against her stomach. Her nipples were stinging, feeling taut and abraded by the silk lining of her dress. Her skin was tight, her eyes damp. There was a heavy ache in the notch of her thighs. A profound yearning compelled her hand to the back of his head as she lifted her mouth to his. It’s only a kiss, she thought dimly, but it was so much more than that. It was a stumble into the outer universe where they melded and became pure energy. She was aware of the corporeal sensations—the erotic scrape of his lips across hers, hard and hungry and possessive. The pressure of his fingertips biting into her back and hips, the faint taste of scotch on his tongue and the hiss of his breath. Or was that her gasp of growing arousal? She was aware of the crispness of his collar and the heat of his neck and the faint scratch of worsted wool against her inner thigh. Then there was the reaction within her, which was even more cataclysmic. His roaming hands turned her blood to golden honey. Her muscles wilted. Her body arced as though caught in an electrical charge that pulled her soul into his. Her head felt too heavy, exposing her throat to the damp streak of his kisses into her neck. Her naked breast swelled into the hand that slid past her neckline to claim it. A feral moan left her as his fingers skimmed her nipple, then caught it in a delicate pinch. She dropped the thin strap off her shoulder so her breast was fully exposed. He growled out something unbridled and turned to press her into sitting on the desk before he bent and captured her distended nipple in the scorching pull of his mouth. She braced her hand behind her, sifting her fingers through his hair, head tilted back at the sheer luxury of indulging herself. She was pure animal, pure being. Nothing but sensation and all of it was rapturous. She liked sex. She reveled in being touched and held and feeling close to someone. She liked how the intense pleasure erased the trials of life, leaving her relaxed when she was usually nothing but coiled tension. Admitting to that had gotten her in trouble before, though. Tiny amber lights blinked on inside her, warning her that people would find out about this. She would soon wear a fresh shade of scarlet. Jade wasn’t allowed to indulge herself, or forget her place, or have exciting hookups in dangerous places. But this feels so good was her next thought, as he straightened and kissed her, pushing her legs farther apart to stand between them. His erection was right there, steely hard, threatening to singe through wool and cotton. As his tongue plunged between her lips, she thought, Yes, please. She curled her ankle behind his thigh, encouraging him to rock his hips and make them both shiver in reaction. No one knew they were in here, her inner harlot whispered. The door was locked. It had been so long since she had felt like this: desired and sensual and irresistible. In fact, she wasn’t sure she had ever felt like this—as though having sex right now, with this man, was beyond necessary. “Do you have a condom?” she had the sense to ask in a voice laced with desire. He dragged his head up. One hand still possessively cradled her breast. The other was flat on the desktop beside her hip so he wouldn’t fully knock her over. His gaze was hazed with lust, seeming not to comprehend the question. Then his teeth flashed in a wickedly handsome smile. “I do.” His warm touch left her breast and he pushed two fingers into his shirt pocket, withdrawing a little gold square. It was like a magician’s trick, one that was too much of a delightful discovery to question the premeditation that had gone into its appearance. “You’re sure?” he asked. She nodded, aware that some of her urgency was the nervous tension of doing something she shouldn’t—like shoplifting or ignoring a no-trespassing sign. She might never get a chance like this again without getting caught, so she clasped the moment in greedy, wicked hands. He loomed closer, sweeping an arm behind her to clear the desk, knocking a cup of pens, a laptop stand and a photo out of the way before he pressed her onto her back. His other hand slid up her skirt and caught her knickers, twisting them down her hips and legs to leave them dangling off her ankle. Later, she would remember how well-practiced that had seemed, how he’d had a condom at the ready, proving he was only here at this party to hook up. Right now, she was more consumed by the way he pushed up her skirt and hitched her hips closer to the edge, then knelt to set her thighs on his shoulders.
